Welcome to ERAS
If I was to pick a large breed whose personality the Silk Dog most resembles,
I'd have to choose the Golden Retriever.
Both are very loyal, super sweet and just want to be with the ones they love.
The Silk Dogs are that wonderful 'big' dog in a smaller package!

Our dogs and puppies must be a pet first and a "showman" second.
Raised in our home with lots of love and attention
for that perfect companion and/or show dog.
Puppies available occasionally to select homes.
We do not ship puppies!
You must be able to come here to our home
to pick up your puppy. We are about 50 miles south of Chicago, Illinois,
and approximately an hour's drive from both Chicago Airports.
Many airlines will allow you to travel with your puppy in a
soft crate in the cabin with you under your seat. That is the only way our pups can fly.

Many Havanese websites are claiming to have Havana Silk Dogs and stating that Havana Silk Dogs and Havanese are the same exact breed. We were involved in breeding and showing Havanese for several years, and not once was the Havanese breed EVER referred to as an Havana Silk Dog, but now with the growing popularity of the Silk Dog and the HSDAA it seems some Havanese breeders are trying to claim they are the same breed. This is an untrue statement since Havana Silk Dogs and Havanese have two separate and distinct breed standards and do in fact look quite a bit different. Also, registered & certified Havana Silk Dogs, show no signs of 'dwarfism'... ie. bowed leg or legs or short legs. ( read about dwarfism in dogs here.. ) It's true that the "silk dog" has its roots from the Havanese, but they also have their roots from Russia, Cuba and the Caribbean in general, and have some blood ties to the 'Bolonka' breed. Only certified Havana Silk Dogs are really Havana Silk Dogs and those dogs have passed a critical examination for breed type and health before obtaining full breeding & registration privileges. All of our breeding dogs at ERAS, are CERTIFIED Havana Silk Dogs and our puppies are registered only with the HSDAA. Below is a picture of two of my dogs. Dusty, on the left, is a great and loyal little dog, but he has chondrodysplasia (dwarfism). His coat is more coarse, (mats congregate on him by the second lol).... his head is large and his neck is thicker and shorter and his short legs are bowed. (He is a neutered pet living the high life in FL now). On the right, is Jack... a Havana Silk Dog. His neck and shoulders are elegant and refined, his coat is silky and hassle-free (no mats!) and his longer legs are straight and in perfect proportion to his body. Interestingly enough, his temperament is MUCH better than Dusty's too. At ERAS, we are commited to breeding to the standard for the Havana Silk Dog and producing beautiful, healthy puppies for wonderful families.

What is an Havana Silk Dog? An Havana Silk Dog is a fully pedigreed dog, who is more or less "the phoenix that rose from the ashes" when a select number of breeders, several years ago, deliberately bred for a more elegant and totally non CD dog, in an effort to improve the health in the Havanese breed. In doing so, these dogs began to have a different look. A more elegant dog with a flatter silkier coat emerged, looking quite a bit different than the American Havanese. We heard it from HCA members and from AKC Judges alike, for a number of years, in fact. And after many years of research regarding the Arizona Conundrum and through the findings at TAMU research by Dr. Keith Murphy, we know that Havana Silk Dogs are different phenotypically and genetically from the Havanese.
